New at What Clothes! Me Likey Manolo :
Yes, I am shallow. I am addicted to shoes. I also admit to changing what my addiction looks like, feels like, and costs.
But lately, I have come to re-appreciate the Manolo Blahnik shoe. Italian shoes really are special. I have been to Italy several times and the Italians take their “scarpe” seriously. After taking their dinner breaks, they promenade in their evening clothes, and their shoes are often a focus of the outfit.
I will also admit that at times, in between my academic insanity, I will soothe my
soul with a bit of Sex and the City, which often includes a mention or two of Mr. Blahnik, himself
He looks like a friendly guy, don’t you think? The idea of wearing a pair of handmade Italian shoes that are beautiful and special is a treat. However, the price tag is a shocker.
Even in my days of big film industry salaries, I would not have bought a pair of Mr. Blahnik’s shoes. They are quite the extravagance.
Yet…. I must admit, I look regularly on Ebay to see if there are any pairs for
auction that might be attainable if I am clever and patient. Or if I find some fine man who responds to begging. Nahhh.
Here is the thing: I am in the 10% that is right-brained dominant. So I am attracted to the creative. So now and then, I have to splurge. However, I have found that if I wait and watch, and keep a budget, I can find a pair of shoes that I can grab a good price, providing I do not mind if they belonged to someone with a lot more money than I will probably ever have before I get them.
Hey…..I am not proud. I am just a little off my nut from studying, teaching and writing for the last four years….
So let me have the shoes, already.
Or….you can spring for a trip to Italy and we can go meet the man himself…
Just the fact that I am writing this post instead of my dissertation should tell you something.
Tryin’ to be stylin’
